Vegan Comic: The English Family Anderson #2: Unfinished Business

vegan children's comic

If you read the first English Family Anderson comic you could be forgiven for thinking that they lived happily ever after in their old red bus. But you’d be mistaken. The second book in this vegan comic series brings them all kinds of drama. It’s been a year since the vegan family helped the ghost of Caitriona Allaway, who had been murdered in the 1800s by the evil Viscount Faulkner, and they hadn’t seen her since. Assuming she had found peace and crossed over to the other side, the Andersons enjoyed their self-sufficient life in the Scottish Highlands, but they soon discover that Caitriona is still in the realm of the living and she needs their help again.

Vegan Fairy Tale: The Princess Who Liked To Be Popular

Here is an old-fashioned story with modern relevance. A beautiful square book with full colour illustrations on every page, this vegan fairy tale is about a princess who is a little too eager to please.

Princess Primrose loved to be loved so she always did her best to please everybody. Consequently, when her parents left her in charge of the kingdom for a while, she couldn’t wait to give the people everything they asked for so that they would love her even more. And they did. For a while.

Until it all went horribly wrong.

The Princess Who Liked to be Popular is a fairy tale about a naïve princess who foolishly ignores her elders; it’s about a wicked wizard with a deceptively warm smile; and it’s about Fair Trade. With information at the back about the Food Empowerment Project (foodispower.org) which seeks to create a more just and sustainable world by recognizing the power of one’s food choices.

Format: Paperback 78 pages, colour interior,

Dimensions: Square (8.5 x 8.5 in / 216 x 216 mm)

“Wow! What a wonderful, enlightening story! So appropriate and timely.”Shery Alexander Heinis

“I think you might need to use much smaller words so Congress can understand the story. Love it!” mzklever

“After reading part of this to my 7 year old son, I sort of summed up Primrose’s scenario: she did what made people happy or like her, not necessarily what is right. My son asked, “Is that the right way?” Interesting! I took for granted that he would know the answer. Hopefully he will begin to learn the right answer as he reads stories like yours. Thanks!”Green Chimneys Garden

VEGAN FAIRY TALES: Little Chicken Book of Fairy Tales

vegan fairy tales

This beautiful, hardback, vegan children’s book, Little Chicken Book of Fairy Tales, contains four new stories in the classic fairy tale style. There’s one about a princess whose need to be popular makes her a little too eager to please, – there’s a wizard in that one!

Then there’s the king whose three sons have to compete to win the throne by solving a crisis. There’s no wizard in that one. Then there’s the one with a world protected by witches, and the last one has a boy who makes a lot of wishes – there’s no wizard in those two either but there is a bit of magic! 😀

Vegan fairy tales! What fun! 😀

Actually these are only subliminally vegan so while this lovely book will definitely be enjoyed by vegan kids, it would also make a great gift for the non-vegan in your family.

With old fashioned black and white illustrations, this beautiful hardback book with blue linen cover and colourful dust jacket, would make a very special gift.

Suitable for reading to small children and for older children to read alone.

Format: Hardback 55 pages, black and white interior, dimensions: 6 x 9 in / 152 x 229 mm, vegan fairy tales for all ages.

VEGAN GRAPHIC NOVEL: Maddicts

This vegan storybook , that is, vegan graphic novel, is for teens to adults.

What would happen if the animals got organised? What if the persecutors got what was coming to them? What if the natural world fought back? This, in a nutshell, is what Maddicts is about. Well, it’s part of what Maddicts is about, but we don’t want to give too much away.

Maddicts is a dark satirical thriller; a vegan graphic novel set in 2027.

You’ll gasp.

You’ll laugh.

You’ll dread 2027.

Recommended for readers over 12 years.

Format:  Paperback 98 pages, black and white interior, dimensions: A5 (5.83 x 8.27 in / 148 x 210 mm), vegan graphic novel, suitable for ages 12 to over 21.

VEGAN GRAPHIC NOVEL: The Rebel Gang and the Number Ciphers

The Rebel Gang and the Number Ciphers is a kind of vegan graphic novel. Sort of. That is, it’s not a graphic novel with speech bubbles and comic panels, it’s a story told with words and pictures but the pictures are a collage of photos and bus timetables and train tickets. Some drawings. Not sure what I’m on about? Read on!

Suspicious ciphertexts are discovered by state investigators and assumed to be the correspondence of a hostile rebel gang. Those in charge fear an attempt to overthrow the government. M is tasked with tracking down the rebels, discovering their plans and bringing them to justice before they destroy civilization.

This is the classified document, complete with uncovered ciphertexts and suspect profiles, which details the investigation’s progress. The Rebel Gang and the Number Ciphers: a funny, intriguing and sometimes badly-spelled code-cracking journey of discovery.

A fun vegan children’s book, this conspiracy theory is fiction and any resemblance to real people or events is probably coincidental 😉 We recommend it for vegan children aged 8 and up but you don’t have to be a child to enjoy it 😀

Format:  Paperback 70 pages, colour interior, dimensions: A5 (5.83 x 8.27 in / 148 x 210 mm), vegan graphic novel, suitable for ages 8 and up.

Little Chicken Classic – Luke Walker: animal stick up for-er

funny vegan short stories

In a playful imitation of the old Penguin Classics, we bring you the first Little Chicken classic! Drawn untidily and off-centre in crayon, this book cover is the perfect wrapping for stories about Luke 😀

This edition contains all the stories from the first two Luke Walker books but it is written in ordinary Times New Roman instead of the handwritten font used in the others. For this reason it has less pages and costs less to print. Complete with the same hand-drawn illustrations.

The subject of these funny short stories for children, Luke Walker, is an eight year old boy with a mind of his own. Growing up in a meat-eating family, he’s noticed that life often isn’t fair for animals and that his parents’ and teachers’ justifications for this don’t make sense. Wanting to right wrongs, he becomes a self-styled vegan outlaw who will not play by the rules if the rules mean being unkind. He knows he’s right but he also knows that, in order to do the right thing, he sometimes needs to be sneaky.

This Little Chicken Classic compilation contains the first sixteen chapters of Luke Walker’s adventures sticking up for animals. They are funny, exciting, and very entertaining. Great mischief, great adventures, great fun!

100% of our profits from the sale of this book go to the wonderful Hillside Animal Sanctuary in Norfolk 😀

Format:  Paperback 179 pages, black and white interior, dimensions: 6 x 9 in / 152 x 229 mm, vegan children’s book of short stories, suitable for ages 8 to 108.

Comments from the web:

I thought this book was really funny and interesting. It is a great book of short stories, of the naughty adventures of a little boy. It is a great read for confident readers, and I enjoyed it a lot as an adult. If you like Just William, then you will like this too.

“In a way it also reminds me of some of Anne Fine’s works too, because it is all in the perspective of a child at school, which is often a very alternative perspective, of a special type, filled with a certain wisdom applicable to the situations that children are placed in by adults and society. Really humorous stories.”Ashanti Oberon

Review excerpt: “Children reading this book will surely be inspired to speak out for animals. It will germinate in them the seeds of a confident personality and can surely teach young readers that standing alone does not necessarily mean you are wrong! …. The best part about this book is that it is not preachy, but mocks this Janus-faced world through its humor. You will find this book, not a lecture but it will open your mind to the harsh realities. This book is definitely a must-read, and will surely arouse in you the want of being vegan!”Arnav Gupta, The BookWorm. For full review click here.

VEGAN SHORT STORIES: Luke Walker and the Secret Society of animal stick up for-ers

Luke Walker started sticking up for animals when he was 8 and told his parents he wasn’t going to eat meat any more. From that point on he trusted no one and questioned everything. He became a self-styled outlaw who spoke out and took action when animals needed his help, regardless of the trouble he got into.

Now, in the third book of the series, he’s 11 and at secondary school. He’s still the same brave outspoken animal defender but he’s not alone. Three friends have joined him and together they are the Secret Society of animal stick up for-ers.

As always, Luke’s rebellious antics will amuse and inspire. Whenever you’re faced with an animal-related dilemma, think to yourself – what would Luke do? Chapters 17 to 24 of the Luke Walker: animal stick up for-er series of vegan short stories by Violet Plum. Printed in hand-written font.

All our profits from the sale of this book go to the wonderful Hillside Animal Sanctuary in Norfolk.

Format:  Paperback 228 pages, black and white interior, dimensions: 6 x 9 in / 152 x 229 mm, vegan children’s book of short stories, suitable for ages 8 to 108.

Comments from the web:

“This is the third book in the Luke Walker series. This time our hero is accompanied by 3 other brave animal stick up for-ers. Luke is growing up, and as he continues to lead by being an amazing role model, some of his peers have decided to walk alongside him and take action for the animals. This book is so wonderful. It continues to offer such excellent lessons for our kids. The main characters demonstrate the value of working as a team, how we are stronger united. With varied personalities and perspectives, through honesty, listening to and supporting each other, and everyone pitching in, these youngsters go out into the world as leaders, educating, making a difference. They touch on the importance of compassion, respect and kindness for effective communication. The story is again ultimately one of hope. It inspires and motivates us to persevere. It makes us smile and laugh. It makes us feel certain that doing something, via the heart, to make the world a better place, to save lives, help the planet, improve health, is well worth the effort. Our children are being taught that, yes, they too can make a difference, they have wisdom and power.”PniB

“The fun-filled stories continue as the children attempt to find aliens, send letters to cruel organisations and try to persuade their school to stop supporting animal testing. … Craving for exciting and knowledgeable adventures? Then read this book!” Arnav Gupta, the BookWorm.

Comments from the web:

“My daughter ( 7 yrs ) and I just finished reading More Luke Walker Animal Stick Up for – Er. While we are so grateful that you came out with this second book so quickly……. we are now waiting with bated breath for the next one!!!! Blush Blush, no pressure or anything :). Ok, so this book was more intense than the first, dealing with more dramatic, blatant, risk taking acts of animal rights activism. At one or two points in the story my sensitive daughter was too scared to go on, fearing Luke might find himself in some real hot water. In the end I think what stands out, what comes to the foreground, is the place of innocence, of untainted youthful compassion that knows beyond a shadow of a doubt what is right and what is wrong, where all the acts of defiance emerge from. Once again Luke has touched and inspired us with his intuitive understanding of what kindness and respect means, and the way he takes up the gauntlet to bravely make the world a better place. I LOVED the ending! Thank you so much.”Pnina B

“Very funny 🙂 This is great because it raises these important issues without pulling you into a pit of despair. It’s really funny. I think that laughter is really important for helping people to think about things they don’t think they can let themselves think about. Luke is great because he does the things everyone would like to do if it even occurred to them that they could.”egglantine

“This is amazing, I wish more people did things like Luke! So funny, what a wonderful idea for a story 😀 I was laughing all the way through.”eight dolls sitting in a row

VEGAN COMICBOOK: Reflecto Girl #7: Incidental

Renée Gale is a vegan activist. And superhero. Sort of. When she was eleven years old her grandmother gave her the Dounto, a mystical mirror, (pronounced doon-toe). Its name comes from the rule that you should do unto others as you would have them do unto you. If the Dounto is held in front of someone who is doing something horrible to someone else, their misdeeds are reflected back. Whatever they are doing, happens to them.

With the Dounto, Renée is Reflecto Girl. In episode 7, on her way to reflect an unpleasant billionaire, Reflecto Girl accidentally reflects three other people on the same train. This exciting vegan comic, in the style of 1970s children’s comics, tells the very different stories of what happens to each of them.

Plus there’s a delicious vegan cake recipe at the end 😀

Format: Paperback 41 pages, colour interior, dimensions: 8.5 x 11 in / 216 x 279 mm, vegan children’s book suitable for ages 8 to 108.

£4.50 in UK. Prices may vary depending on where it’s printed.

“This is wonderful! [#5] I love Distracto Boy, what a great idea! And I really like how Renee likes to quote things, it shows she is a person who is cultured and interested in things. I like that: “Let’s get cake”! Firstly, and most importantly, let’s get cake. 🙂 It is a wonderful twisty turny story, so much happens in it, I really enjoyed reading it. I like the woman who stops George, and the Bureaucrat and the security guard, they are all very funny.”Ann Mogli

Reflecto Girl: Beginnings

vegan superhero Reflecto Girl

Renee Gale was an ordinary girl when she inherited something from her grandma: an ancient Celtic mystical mirror – the Dounto (pronounced doon-toe). So if Renee holds it in front of someone, whatever they are doing or about to do to someone else will happen to them. With the Dounto Renee is Reflecto Girl, saving all sorts of animals from all sorts of dangers and teaching their would-be abusers a lesson they won’t forget.

VEGAN PICTURE BOOK: What’s good for the goose is not good for the panda

Patty Panda is hungry but doesn’t know what to eat. Luckily she meets lots of different animals who are happy to share their food, but still has trouble finding something that suits her.

This delightful rhyming story, written and illustrated completely in collage by Lavender Laine, teaches children that we are all different and what’s good for one is not necessarily good for someone else.

It might also inspire children to make art out of old odds and ends (such as left over yarn and buttons, paper cut from old magazines, fabric off-cuts, and food packaging etc) as Laine has done here, encouraging recycling and resourcefulness.

Format: Paperback 34 pages, colour interior, dimensions: 8.5 x 11 in / 216 x 279 mm, vegan children’s book suitable for reading with pre-school children and for older children to read alone.

£4.50 in UK. Prices may vary depending on where it’s printed.

Comments from the web:

“Such a wonderful story with wonderful illustrations 🙂 I have read it before, but it’s brilliant all over again 🙂 I love all the delightful illustrations and details, it is exquisite. It is very good for children to be inspired by how you can make a picture out of lots of different things. When I was a child we made pictures out of sweets. Very inspiring 🙂 And it has a great message, highlighting the fundamental differences between all the wonderful creatures.” WillowtheWhispy

“That story was fantastic 😀 ! I can’t believe all the ways Lavender Laine found to make pictures!! I love the one when she’s walking over the knitted hill, and the one with the blue sky made of postage stamps, and the one with the mushroom tortoise standing under the button manchineel tree, and the one where the panda and the tree are all knitted!! (I will stop listing them there, because I have so many favourites) Awesome. It’s like fantastic land. I also like the way the words are all cut out from magazines, it makes reading so much more fun!!” Egglantine
